Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) has announced a new transfer agreement with the College of Charleston. This agreement establishes a formal pathway for students who complete the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Business Administration at HGTC to seamlessly transfer to the College of Charleston to pursue a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree.

President of HGTC, Marilyn “Murph” Fore Ph.D., expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, "This agreement represents a significant step forward in providing our students with expanded educational opportunities. By collaborating with the College of Charleston, we are ensuring that our graduates have a clear and accessible pathway to further their education and achieve their career goals."

Dean of the School of Business, Computer Technology, and Personal Service at HGTC, Theresa Strong, Ph.D., added, "We are excited to offer our students this opportunity to continue their education at one of the most prestigious institutions in South Carolina. This partnership will not only benefit our students but also contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce in our region."

Under the terms of the agreement, HGTC students who complete the AAS in Business Administration and meet the academic qualifications will be eligible to transfer to the College of Charleston's Bachelor of Professional Studies program. The agreement ensures that courses taught at HGTC by credentialed faculty will transfer seamlessly, allowing students to continue their education without interruption.

"This partnership reflects our commitment to expanding access and supporting student success across South Carolina. By creating a clear path from HGTC to the College of Charleston, we are helping more students reach their goals as we strengthen the state’s workforce,” said Suzanne Austin, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the College of Charleston.

The signing of the agreement was held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the International Culinary Institute on the Grand Strand Campus.

The agreement became effective starting February 3, 2025, and will be reviewed annually by representatives from both institutions to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
