Best and Brightest Grand Strand 2025

Welcome to our 2025 Best and Brightest 35 and Under. This year for the first time, we’re recognizing individuals from five geographic regions of South Carolina: Greenville, Columbia, Charleston, the Grand Strand, and now the Pee Dee region.

We launched our B2B: Pee Dee Business edition earlier this year, and we’re proud to add accomplished young people from that region to this year’s list.

The individuals in these five regions are still young, but they’re making a difference in so many fields, from real estate to banking, the law to education, health care to hospitality.

We salute them, and we can’t wait to see what else they accomplish in the coming years. Each one has his or her own story to tell, and it is our privilege to share those stories with our readers.

We will honor all of these remarkable young leaders at events in their respective cities during September and October.

Looking back at my 29 years of life, I have persevered through a lot and have become a much stronger person through the experiences I’ve gone through. I live a wonderful life at the beach with my husband Matthew whom I’ve been married to for four years in October, and we have a beautiful four-month-old baby girl named McKinley. I recently was promoted to manager within my role and have just graduated from a 10-month leadership program. I hope to continue to grow professionally while serving my community. Thankfully, through my role at the Chamber, I get to serve the community daily; it is my single greatest passion. I love to support local nonprofits and business owners through service. Community, to me, is friends that become family who all live, work, and play in one area.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

A successful leader is someone who answers the call no matter what. It’s more than a title. It’s the person that leads and does what’s right even when no one is watching. Leaders are passionate about what they believe in and do whatever it takes to make positive changes for others. Some of the greatest leaders did not have a title but had a strong passion for what they believed in and created positive change. For example, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony and Billy Graham all believed in something so strongly that no matter the cost they were going to make a change. A leader is someone that struggles and still finds a way to smile through it and beat the odds. They are servants who support their community and the individuals around them, while training up the next generation of leaders.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

I would tell my 18-year-old self to not stress the little things and that everything works out in the end and all according to God’s plan. Continue to do the hard things even when it seems no one notices, it will pay off one day and you will see the fruits of your labor. Don’t settle for less and know your worth.

I’ve worn a few different hats over the years, but they’ve all had one thing in common: people. Most recently, I was the store manager at Black Dog Outfitters. I enjoyed building relationships, helping customers, and being part of giving Conway that small-town feel. As manager, I was involved with the Conway Chamber of Commerce through both the Conway Leadership program and by serving on the board of directors. I realized I wanted to show up for the local community in a bigger way. So, I recently accepted a position on the team at the Chamber of Commerce. I’m excited to carry that same energy into my work at the Chamber — helping the town grow, thrive, and become more connected. Helping others feel seen, valued, and supported will always be part of my mission.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

A successful leader is someone who leads by example, serves others before themselves, and stays rooted in their values no matter the circumstance. True leadership isn’t about being the loudest in the room — it’s about listening well, lifting others up, and showing up with consistency, integrity, and heart.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

You are more capable than you know, and your worth doesn’t come from achievements or approval from others. Don't worry if your path looks different from everyone else’s. Every setback will teach you something essential — don’t run from the hard seasons. They’re growing you into someone stronger than you ever imagined. Don’t rush to have it all figured out. Ask more questions, take more risks, and don’t be afraid to walk away from things that don’t align with your values.

I’m proud to have been born and raised along the Grand Strand, graduating from St. James High School and Clemson University before returning home to work in our family business, The Brandon Agency. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside my father — who’s become my best friend — continuing the legacy my grandfather began. In 2023, I embraced a new challenge as a franchise partner/owner of ISI Elite Training, now owning both the North Myrtle Beach and Garden City locations. I’m passionate about mentoring young people, both by helping them avoid mistakes I’ve made and through growing in their own potential. Quit comparing yourself to others. It's only going to slow you down!

I was born and raised in New Jersey, but Myrtle Beach became my "home away from home" while I was a student at Coastal Carolina University. In the B.A. and MBA programs, I immersed myself in the arts, business, and volunteered in a variety of capacities. Since graduation, I now serve as a catering sales manager for the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes. This role allows me to foster both new and existing relationships with local organizations and contribute to the execution of meaningful events. I’ve also recently joined the Grand Strand Young Professionals group. I believe giving back is how we inspire others and leave a lasting impact. I enjoy spending time with close family and friends, am involved with a local church, and continue to nourish my artistic endeavors.

This quote has always resonated with me because faith is the driving force that pushes me to move forward, even when I’m uncertain. It's a reminder that purpose outweighs fear. You won’t always have a road map but it is important to have the courage to take a chance on yourself.

To me, a successful leader embodies personability, accountability, and integrity. Character is just as important as capability. Leadership means building trust through kindness, understanding, and mutual respect. It’s about lifting others up and setting an example through your actions.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Keep believing in yourself and don’t be so hard on yourself! The hope and passion you carry inside you will lead to something beautifully fruitful.

As a landscape designer, I collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and fellow designers to create places from concept to construction, ensuring our designs are technically sound and environmentally responsive. I participate in public engagement, stakeholder meetings, and council presentations, which allow me to listen to community members and reflect their needs and aspirations into our designs. I assist with internal events at my office and am an active member of the Grand Strand Young Professionals. I earned my Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Ball State University, with a minor in construction management. My academic work focused on inclusive design, particularly in park and playground environments for individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing and/or blind/visually impaired. Through Bolton & Menk, I’ve had the privilege of publishing an article on design principles for accessible playgrounds.

A successful leader is someone who can foster trust, collaboration, and inclusion. Everyone has a story, and it is important to be mindful of that.

Don’t fear change, and never underestimate the strength and support that can come from your community.

I was born and raised in Conway, South Carolina, and have called this area home for the past 24 years. After graduating from Conway High School, I attended Coastal Carolina University, where I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2023 and my Master of Business Administration in 2024. During my time at Coastal Carolina, I was a member of the Wall Fellows Program, as well as a graduate assistant for the business college’s career center. After my graduation, I began full-time at First Citizens Bank and joined Grand Strand Young Professionals. My role at the bank has helped to develop me both personally and professionally. In my role, I am able to help customers navigate all chapters of life while growing my financial knowledge.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

My definition of a successful leader is one that embodies a style of servant leadership. I believe that the most successful teams are led by individuals who are focused on the growth and development of those surrounding them.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Don’t shy away from challenges, because that is where the most growth happens. Playing it safe might feel comfortable, but it’s in the tough moments that you will learn the most.

With a Maryland upbringing, I developed a strong passion for sports, particularly hockey. I completed my studies at Belmont Abbey College in December 2022, graduating a semester early with a major in sports management and minors in digital sports media and business management. During my senior year, I began a part-time role with the Charlotte Checkers, the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers. Following this, I became an operations manager at a local ice rink. Recently, I relocated to the coastal area, where I am currently employed by 810 Entertainment, while continuing my commitment to the Checkers' weekend home games. My professional ambition is to have a valuable impact on an NHL team's success and foster a winning culture for on-ice achievements and off-ice stability. Being tourist-centric, prioritizing the local community is essential.

This would be my favorite quote because sports, particularly hockey, played such a pivotal role in my younger years even in my current day to day, imparting invaluable skills. The passion, proficiency, dedication, and resilience cultivated through sports are profound. They distill life's essential lessons, fostering personal growth and development.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

Effective leaders need cooperation (listening, respect, compromise), perseverance, knowledge application, team orientation, motivation, composure under pressure, and communication for successful teams.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

See challenges as chances to grow and learn. Try not to compare yourself to others. Always be open to learning and new opportunities, even if they seem small at first. Your hard work won't go unnoticed.

Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Be open to new experiences, accept that failure is part of growth, and see every challenge as a chance to learn something valuable.

As a commercial banking officer at United Bank, I specialize in various types of commercial loans, including CRE, C&I, commercial lines of credit, and construction loans. I am based in United’s Myrtle Beach office and have lived here since 2022. I’m originally from West Virginia and received a BSBA degree in marketing from West Virginia University with a concentration in professional sales. I am currently enrolled in the SC Bankers Association’s Bankers School at the University of South Carolina, and I am a graduate of United Bank’s coveted four-year Leadership Development Program. I am also an active member of NewSpring Church and a volunteer reader at Myrtle Beach Elementary School, where my wife, Scottie, teaches fifth grade. Additionally, as a Master Mason and Shriner, I regularly support Shriners Hospitals for Children.

This quote resonates with me because I truly believe the best leaders are a reflection of a great team. My team and support system are everything to me, and I believe that I wouldn’t have made it to where I am today without them.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

In my opinion, a successful leader is someone who leads by example, empowers their followers, and lifts their team up. A successful leader has a high level of integrity, emotional intelligence, and is not afraid to make difficult decisions in the face of adversity or uncertainty. That’s also the kind of leader I aspire to be.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

My father recently taught me a very important lesson about the dangers of living with regret. He said, "You don’t want to look back on life and say 'I wish I would have…’” This is something I wish I learned sooner. Today, I would tell 18-year-old Douglas to be bold! Take advantage of every opportunity to develop yourself, surround yourself with people who enrich your life, and do not shy away from challenges due to risk of failure; failure is life's greatest teacher.
And I would add to that to not be too hard on yourself. Remember that you are doing your best in life. Stand by what you believe in, trust in God, work hard, and everything will fall into place.

A lifelong music lover, I began voice lessons at age 4 and later attended a performing arts high school with a focus in voice. I earned a Bachelor of Music from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and a master’s in arts leadership and cultural management from Colorado State University. In 2018, I was honored to be one of 35 professionals selected for the League of American Orchestras' prestigious Essentials of Orchestra Management seminar in Los Angeles, California. Since 2018, I’ve served as executive director of the Long Bay Symphony. I currently serve as vice president of the board for the South Carolina Arts Alliance, a statewide organization dedicated to advancing the arts through advocacy, leadership, and public awareness. Ensuring the arts are available and accessible to all is at the core of my personal mission.

In 2014, after graduating from Coastal Carolina University, I made the decision to plant roots here in the Grand Strand. For the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of working at CCNB, Coastal Carolina National Bank, where I currently serve as VP/commercial portfolio manager. I’m also a proud graduate of the South Carolina Banker’s School and was honored to be named CCNB’s Employee of the Year in 2020. I’m an attorney at Grand Strand Law Group in North Myrtle Beach, where I focus on transactional law including real estate, estate planning, probate, and business law. I graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a degree in political science and history in 2020, then went on to earn my J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign-Urbana in 2023. Since joining GSLG in 2023, I’ve been passionate about helping individuals and businesses navigate important legal decisions with confidence and care. I’m actively involved in the Greater Business Networking Group and the B.I.G. Series for leaders through Destination North Myrtle Beach. I’m a proud member of the Horry County Women’s Republican Club and regularly volunteer at events through The Kind Keeper Animal Rescue and Grand Strand Humane Society.

I live by this quote. It has consistently pushed me beyond my comfort zone and into opportunities I might have otherwise hesitated to take. Growth doesn’t happen in stillness or safety — it happens in uncertainty, challenge, and risk. Leaders aren’t shaped by comfort; they’re shaped by resilience, hard decisions, and the courage to move forward before everything feels “ready.”

What is your definition of a successful leader?

To me, a successful leader is someone who leads with purpose, humility, and service, but isn’t afraid to make the hard calls when the moment demands it.
I believe in servant leadership: lifting others up, listening first, and empowering people to grow, however I also recognize that strong leadership means making difficult decisions with clarity and courage, even when they’re not popular. The balance between compassion and conviction is what defines truly effective leadership.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Speak up early, trust your intellect, and don’t shrink to make others comfortable. The decisions that feel hard now will shape the confidence you’ll carry later.

I am the president of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. I'm responsible for advocating for over 2,400 member businesses and working to improve the quality of life for Myrtle Beach area residents. Prior to joining the Chamber, I worked on Capitol Hill for a U.S. congressman, helping craft both legislation and public policy. Originally from Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, I'm a graduate of the University of Maryland, and received my postgraduate from the U.S. Naval War College. I live in Myrtle Beach with my wife, 3-year-old son, and 2-year-old daughter. I'm thrilled to work with an organization of talented professionals that come to work every day with one goal in mind: to seek to improve the quality of life for Myrtle Beach area residents.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

I've seen a quote that 'true leaders don't create more followers, they create more leaders.' Leadership to me is about recognizing the efforts of the people around you and empowering them with the tools they need to be successful.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

You don't know it all and you never will. The smarter you get, the more you will realize how little that you actually know. Live a life of curiosity and always be respectful and sympathetic to everyone that you interact with. You don't know what they are going through or how they could impact you in the future.

I was born and raised here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and earned a bachelor’s degree from Coastal Carolina University – Go Chants! As a native of the Grand Strand, giving back to the community has always guided me through my professional and personal life. I have the privilege of working for our region’s largest hospital system, Tidelands Health, in the Human Resources Department. In this role, I take pride in fostering strong professional relationships with new employee partners, recruiting top talent, and spearheading initiatives to ensure we provide the best experience for our staff’s well-being. My volunteer experience within the community, including CCU Alumni, Nana’s House Board, and Grand Strand League, affords me the opportunity to promote Tidelands Health through many different avenues.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

I believe there is so many ways we as individuals have the ability to be a successful leader. I feel leadership is the ability to build up confidence, set expectations and also inspire through example. I think it is imperative to effectively listen, communicate, have integrity and self-awareness. In addition, I think it is vital for leaders should be learning agile and flex their influence while communicating their vison, showing gratitude and collaborating effectively. For me, personally, I think being as empathetic to one will always be a memorable quality to your peers and followers. ALWAYS be able to see one's perspective.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

I would tell my 18-year-old self to "buckle up because the next decade of your life will have some unexpected turns" I'd also tell myself to stay professionally curious, don't sweat the small stuff and continuously embrace any challenge or achievement that comes your way. Always find comfort inn the unknown and enjoy the ride.

I had a non-traditional path to my career. I started as a certified athletic trainer and moved to South Carolina with the intention of only staying for a 10-month internship at Coastal Carolina University. Eight years later, here we are. I took a leap of faith and reinvented my entire career at 30 years old and ended up exactly where I was meant to be. I would love to find the other women asking themselves, “Can I do this? Do I really belong?” and help give them the confidence to chase their dreams. I live with my fiancé Alex and stepson Reece in the sweet little town of Conway, South Carolina. It’s one of those special communities that makes you want to lean in further, give back more, and help others rise to their best selves.

I believe this quote to be so inspiringly true. It can be so easy to live in the comfort of success. When you do something right, it can feel great. Especially after a period of struggle or failure. But we learn so much more from failing. Challenging yourself to keep going, to keep learning and evolving, to keep stepping outside of your comfort zone. That's how you end up achieving the dreams you never even knew you had.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

The most successful leaders I have come to respect and admire have two traits in common: open communication and a culture of collaboration. I think when you are young, you hold this idea that the people at the top know it all. But when you finally get a seat at the table, you realize the best leaders, the ones driving change and pioneering success, are the ones asking the hard questions because they aren't afraid to appear vulnerable. "Who can do this task better than I can? Which of my team members has a skill that would excel in this situation? Which table can I bring this to so that more minds can solve this problem? In municipal work, that means being hands-on, building trust with your team and your community, and making decisions that reflect both the long-term vision and day-to-day needs.
 
I think good leadership also means being willing to do hard work, not just delegate it. It’s about being approachable, staying accountable, and keeping the focus on the bigger picture, especially when the work directly impacts people’s lives. That’s the kind of leader I am trying to be.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

If I could give my 18-year-old self some advice, I’d say: always stay true to who you are. Don’t let something influence you just because someone else is doing it. It’s easy to get caught up in what looks successful or popular, but the things that matter most come from knowing your values and sticking to them — even when it’s not an easy choice.
 
I’d also tell myself not to be afraid to meet new people. Relationships will take you further than you think.

I own and operate Lusso Beauty Bar and Day Spa in Surfside Beach, which allows multiple small businesses to come together under one roof and one name. We are a suite-rental salon that allows other beauty professionals to rent suites from us so that we can all have our own “small businesses” while still having a team of like-minded people to support each other. This year I also completed my personal training certification and training camps at Burn Boot Camp in Surfside Beach. After college, I moved to New York City to join the buying team at Ross Stores. In 2020, I relocated to Myrtle Beach to be closer to my parents while working remotely. During that time, I found myself falling out of love with corporate fashion and began thinking seriously about my childhood dream — owning a boutique. In February 2021, I took the leap and launched Shop Ravel online. I signed a lease for a storefront in September, remodeled it from top to bottom, and officially opened Shop Ravel in November 2021. Through styling and personal connection, I aim to shift how women view themselves — from critical to empowered.

I launched Sweet Kate’s in summer 2020, debuting gluten-free treats at Litchfield Farmers Market during the early Covid-19 pandemic. Within a year, we joined the Waccamaw Farmers Market Cooperative, expanding across multiple weekly markets. During which time I obtained an Associate of Culinary Arts Technologies and an Associate of Arts in Baking and Pastry Arts from HGTC’s International Culinary Institute in Myrtle Beach. After graduation, I was recruited to the college as a culinary coordinator, managing Fowler Dining Room reservations and teaching hospitality. Baking is my passion, and I regularly donate baked goods and gift certificates to local fundraisers and charitable events. Through teaching at the International Culinary Institute, I reinvest my formal training into the next generation of culinary professionals.

I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio to a Brazilian mom and American dad. My love for sales started early, helping my mom with garage sales at age 4 and later out-earning her with a lemonade stand. Growing up in a low-income household, we got internet when I was in middle school and I launched a online business selling books and courses. At 16, I got my first job at Chick-fil-A, eventually becoming an HR Coordinator. During COVID, I pivoted back to sales and sold cars, earning top salesperson awards. After graduating college, I moved to Conway, SC and became an Account Executive for News13. I also founded Don't Tell Comedy Myrtle Beach, where I still produce four shows a month. I now work in software sales at Command Alkon, covering U.S., Canadian, and Brazilian regions.

Entertainment has always been a passion. I love movies, comedy and co-host a film podcast. Seeing people laugh is deeply fulfilling. To be a part of that in this community is a blessing. I give credit for all my success to God.

Long-term, I want to own a consulting firm, focusing on people, culture, sales and strategy. I also hope to start a nonprofit to teach financial literacy to kids in underserved communities. Giving back means using your skills to love, uplift and listen to those around you. I do so by volunteering at my church and helping teach the kids, I try to take part in local events and by spotlighting local businesses at my shows.

Your favorite quote and why:

My favorite quote is "With great power comes great responsibility" — Uncle Ben. Power can be misused and dangerous. Ensuring you are listening, loving and understanding to everyone is the responsibility that comes with power. A lot of people misuse it, I believe it's my responsibility not to.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

A successful leader is a intentional listener. Someone who can be coached, take critique and constantly improve everyday. Someone who leads with love and speaks with confidence, vulnerability and equality. You must be goal oriented, not only for yourself but for each individual in their own success.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Trust in God and don't let anxiety distract you from success. You will always experience failure and when you do, pay close attention because that is where you will learn the most. Love and appreciate the family and friendships you have. Don't ever settle for being comfortable, work to be greatly uncomfortable. Finally, love yourself and who you're becoming, chill out and just watch a movie. I'm proud of you.

Photo credit: Van Glahn Media Co.Originally a New Jersey native, I wrote home, auto, and business insurance in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for five years, before relocating to Conway, South Carolina, six years ago. After a small search, We Insure Advocates is where I decided to hang my hat, and began to service our friends and family of the Grand Strand area as an account executive. We label ourselves as “advocates” because we don’t believe in the traditional high-pressure, misinformed sales techniques commonly used today; we believe education is everything. My mother and I always shared an immense passion for film, which has been the driving force of establishing my media company, Van Glahn Media Co. We lost her two years ago, but I feel her with me every day, and I carry her memory with every shot I take.

Your favorite quote and why:

"The darkest hour of the night comes just before the dawn." I have had many seasons of trials and tribulations in my life, but remembering that tomorrow is a new day, filled with opportunities and unknown surprises is what must be done to withstand such trying times.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

For me, a successful leader is someone who puts the greater good above themselves. It means leading by example, in both good times, and bad. It means showing humility, compassion, and empathy when appropriate. A successful leader should have systems in place to organize and streamline processes that allow their organization to perform at an optimal level. Most importantly, a successful leader should have internal desire to want to help their team succeed as a whole, not just for personal gain. "As the water rises, so do all the boats".

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Stick to your guns, kid. There will be naysayers of your ideas and creativity. Pay them no mind. It's okay to seek feedback, and collaborate ideas, but do not allow the opinions of others to impede your progress and question your judgement. Remain open-minded, but build conviction in your beliefs, and stand by them. It's okay to make mistakes, this is where the growth happens. Always remain humble. No matter what level of life you think you've achieved, it can all change in a second. Money will come and go, who you are is the constant.
