Myrtle Beach City Council members amended and passed the first reading of ordinance 2025-32 during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

The amended version brings back free parking from Oct. 1 through Feb. 28 (or Feb. 29, if a leap year) in the downtown district of Myrtle Beach.

This area is defined as city-metered spaces from Sixth Avenue South to 21st Avenue North and west to Kings Highway.

An ordinance needs to pass two readings by City Council before becoming law.

The ordinance also amends city code to allow the city manager to create and administer a city employee parking decal program for full-time employees (police officers, firefighters, public works employees, etc.) as an additional retention and recruitment tool.
